Thrilling summer of sports at Market Walk Chorley

Family fun was the aim of the game at Market Walk this summer as the shopping centre played host to an array of free sporting activities.

Each Thursday, from 23rd July to 27th August, 11 am – 3 pm, the Flat Iron car park was transformed into a sporting arena with shoppers being invited to come along and test their skill at everything from basketball to golf.

Pat Duckett, Centre Manager at Market Walk, Chorley, said: “This year’s summer sporting activities were great fun for all. Not only did we keep up our fun Thursday tradition but we gave whole families the chance to get out in the fresh air and try their hand at different sports.

“The summer was full of lots of national sporting activities, from Wimbledon to the Ashes and we arranged our games to coincide with this - so there was something for everyone to get involved in.”

The fun kicked off on 23rd July with a tennis challenge, where shoppers were able to re-live the excitement of this year’s Wimbledon and test their swing to find out if they had what it takes to be the next Andy Murray.

On 30th July, when the British Open Championship reached its nail biting climax, shoppers enjoyed an entertaining alternative with crazy golf.

On 6th August shoppers were able to shoot some hoops with friends and family on our basketball court to see who could score the most points.

On 13th August, parents were able to show their kids how it’s done with giant versions of classic board games like Connect Four and Jenga. Family favourites that the whole family could enjoy!

Shoppers were able to become a real part of the Ashes by seeing how good they were are at cricket on Thursday 20th August.

Our final sporty Fun Thursday took place on 27th August, and gave shoppers the chance to get in shape for the new football season by seeing how many penalties they could score. The perfect opportunity to challenge your friends and show your dad up!

All the sporting activities were free to take part in but Market Walk welcomed any donations to its chosen charity, Derian House Children’s Hospice.
